American Tower continues to grow its edge collocation business with a new facility in Pittsburgh, which provides additional connectivity options to the variety of industries, including manufacturing, healthcare and information technology. The facility is six edge data center in American Tower’s portfolio.
“The vast combination of industries in the Pittsburgh area that require increased network elasticity and lower latency make our newest facility an ideal location for an edge data center,” says Whitney Pesot, product manager, U.S. innovation for American Tower. “The increasing use of the Internet of Things (IoT) devices within the manufacturing and healthcare industries is creating more demand for fast connectivity closer to the edge. The city’s emerging artificial intelligence and robotics industry will also heavily rely on the low-latency environment edge facilities provide.”
The 360-square-foot edge data center offers eight customer cabinets, 20 quarter-cabinet lockers, and three full cabinets, accommodating up to 23 customers. The multi-tenant edge data center is centrally located to give customers convenient access to their IT infrastructure.
American Tower edge data centers offer power distribution, monitoring, security and cooling. Using the ground space of the company’s existing tower infrastructure, American Tower can develop and scale new facilities quickly to meet market demand, creating an improved network architecture closer to where data is used and generated. All locations are backed by a 24/7/365 network operations center and offer solutions that allow companies to scale with ease.
