David Redl was confirmed by a voice vote in the Senate to head the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) on Tuesday evening. As of this morning the agency’s web site still listed the job as vacant. He most recently served as the chief counsel for the House Energy and Commerce Committee. He has also served as director or regulatory affairs at CTIA, the Wireless Association.
The Wireless Infrastructure Association President and CEO Jonathan Adelstein, President and CEO of WIA, applauded the Redl’s confirmation.
“We congratulate David Redl on this well-deserved confirmation. Over the years, he has proven himself to be an expert on multiple telecommunications issues including some important issues facing the wireless infrastructure industry,” Adelstein said. “He understands that the stakes are high for the entire nation when it comes to improved mobile networks. Removing barriers and streamlining the responsible and efficient deployment of wireless infrastructure will allow the wireless industry to keep up with the ever-growing demand for increased coverage and capacity.”
