Solutelia has completed its investment into millimeter-wave point-to-point radio developer and manufacturer, Athena Wireless Communications. Solutelia is now the second-largest shareholder of Athena Wireless, and the exclusive global sales and marketing partner for Athena Wireless products.
Athena Wireless brings state-of-the-art technology to fiber backhaul and a solution for small-cell backhaul. The company’s wireless radios are the first fully digital gigabit millimeter-wave radios.
The partnership will allow Athena Wireless to take advantage of Solutelia’s position as the global engineering consulting resource to the telecom industry. Solutelia expands upon its stronghold of wireless intelligence solutions by offering products that allow wireless carriers, Internet service providers and health-care providers, educational institutions and education and corporate campuses to expand and offer more capacity where fiber is not available.
“Our customers are increasingly seeing the need to expand their network by deploying small cells where backhaul plays an important role. Athena products, including its small-cell and backhaul solutions, are some of the most innovative in the market,” said Mohssen Davari, CEO of Solutelia, in a press release.
Athena Wireless is known for a revolutionary portfolio of products that will be released in 2013 through Solutelia. Included will be the 60 GHz (released in 2012), the 80 GHz (expected release in the first quarter of 2013) PTP millimeter-wave radios and LTE small-cell eNodeB (expected release in the third quarter of 2013). Both radios have 1 Gbps, full-duplex throughput.
“The addition of Solutelia’s current carrier contacts along with their current and future sales initiatives will greatly add to our continued sales growth,” said Eduardo Tinoco, CEO of Athena Wireless, in a press release. As part of the strategic investment, Davari will sit on the board of directors at Athena Wireless.
