Power Measurement

3030 Series

Cobham Wireless, formerly Aeroflex, has introduced a measurement option that allows users to perform power measurements more quickly, directly reducing test times in power servo applications. Option 194 (Fast Power Measurement) on the PXI 3030 series RF digitizer results in a 57 pecent reduction in servo loop time when applied to an LTE signal. This has given RFMD an overall 10 percent reduction in test time.

The PXI 3000 Series RF modular instruments provide five generations of test capability covering most applications in RF design validation and wireless manufacturing test. Licensed options are available for LTE/LTE-A, GSM/UMTS/HSPA+, WLAN 802.11a/b/g/n/p/ac, GPS, Bluetooth, DECT, FM, and all generic standards. www.aeroflex.com

LTE Base Station RF Measurement

Aeroflex has announced the separate availability of the LTE Downlink Measurement Suite, a suite of software tools that works with the Aeroflex PXI 3000 platform to characterize the transmitter and receiver parameters of LTE base stations (eNodeB) and small cells in production test. The LTE Downlink (FDD and TDD) Measurement Suite can be used either with the recently-announced LTE Downlink_lowres (3)Aeroflex One-Box Base Station RF Tester, which is based on the Aeroflex PXI 3000 platform, or as an expanded application on the Aeroflex PXI 3000 Series VSA and VSG modules. The software enables RF parametric test to be performed on macro base stations and small cells. The low-level application programming interface (API) of the analysis library allows users easy integration into the automated test system. The LTE ownlink Measurement Suite is incorporated with the user-friendly graphic interface and supports RF parametric measurements during the base station R&D design stage. It is a good choice for performing the 7X24 regression test as well as advanced radio signal simulation and analysis. Aeroflex Enters Next Generation of Test Equipment with Acquisition

Aeroflex has acquired Shenick Network Systems, a provider of virtual testing for next generation software defined networking, cementing a relationship that began two years ago.

The two companies have been partnering to enhance the capabilities of Aeroflex’s wireless infrastructure test products.

“Shenick provides Aeroflex with next generation technology in the rapidly growing virtual test market,” Len Borow, Aeroflex CEO said in a press release.

TeraVM can be used to build an elastic test bed, which scales both vertically as well as horizontally. The test bed can scale vertically from 1 Gigabit per second up to 1 Terabit per second by simply adding more industry standard hardware. Horizontally the elastic test bed scales across test locations which may be in the same building or the other side of the world.

A centrally deployed license server keeps track of available TeraVM licenses and allocates them on demand. With TeraVM, testers or developers in the United States can use the licenses during their work day and when they go home their counterparts in India or China could use the exact same licenses.

“We believe that this acquisition will help us continue to grow and maintain our leading market position in wireless infrastructure test equipment and to increase our gross margins and profitability while expanding our end markets,” Borow said.

Integrated Microwave Test System

Aeroflex is offering an integrated microwave test system. The 7700 is a complete turnkey automated test equipment (ATE) system-in-a-box designed for rapid production testing of microwave and RF components and modules. It is a bench-sized instrument that utilizes the company’s synthetic architecture and common platform hardware to achieve fast measurement throughput. The measurement console test executive controls all aspects of the production test process, including the device under test (DUT), remote switching hardware, thermal chambers, and more. Using production test sequences provided by the base model, the 7700 provides the functionality and measurements of a vector signal generator, spectrum analyzer, vector network analyzer, oscilloscope, power meter, frequency counter, noise figure meter, and a phase noise analyzer. The tight coupling of signal generation, measurements, and DUT control increases measurement throughput significantly over traditional rack-mounted ATE systems. The system has a frequency range of 1 MHz to 6 GHz, with options up to 32 GHz. It includes a complete measurement suite including S-parameters for full characterization of devices such as low-noise amplifiers, variable crystal oscillators and transceiver modules. www.aeroflex.com
