EDITORS’ NOTE–This story originally incorrectly said the tower was in California.
Cell towers have been blamed for killing birds, but occasionally the two get along quite well. One tower in San Diego, Texas, has become a notorious hangout for vultures, according to a KIII TV news report. And at least one resident has said she is fed up with the sky-high aviary.
Crown Castle, the owner of the tower, uses a cannon boom device to scare away the vultures, but apparently it just causes the birds to take flight of defecate on the houses below. Local resident Ramona Sanchez, who lives near the tower, told the news station that the bird droppings and the boom of the cannon are torturing her family.
The San Diego city manager didn’t seem to have a lot of sympathy for Sanchez, saying that the cannon boom is only implemented twice a year for seven days at a time. And, as for the noise, the official noted that the nearby trains are much louder.
